Mechanical Sweetness melds the dreams and personal nostalgia of Los Angeles-based musician Alyssa Gengos into a new-wavey indie rock homecoming album. Written, recorded, and all produced by herself, these nine tracks are the result of her solitary and vulnerable craft. Not only does Mechanical Sweetness celebrate the music indebted to that area, taking the influence of bands that are retro-inspired like Foxygen's Jonathon who's from the same town, but it's a return to self for Gengos. She takes stock of the past, putting the memories back together and making a new sense of them. On Mechanical Sweetness, she reminds us how good it feels to be alone.
